Sail Boat Overview

Sail Boats are powered by wind through one ore more sails. Many sail boats also have an engine, though the engine is not the main source of power while underway. There are many types of sails with the most common being the mainsail and headsail (also referred to as a jib sail).¬† There are a number of other sails including genoa, spinnaker, and gennaker sails that are found on sailboats. Each sail serves a different purpose, and depending on the type of sail boat (catamaran, cutter, cruiser, ketch, sloop, yawl, etc.) you will find different types of sail combinations.
